Abstract
Immature fruits of Stenocereus queretaroensis (Weber) Buxbaum ("pitaya") we re used as starting material for the induction of callus and cell suspensio n cultures. Changes in sucrose concentration in the medium and addition of fungal homogenates were tried to enhance pigment production in cell suspens ions. Chemical analyses support the idea that these pigments sie betalains.
