The classical problem of steady ship waves which are induced in a deep liqu
id by a domain of surface pressures that is moving uniformly and rectilinea
rly is investigated. Exact expressions are known (in the linear formulation
) for the characteristics of the induced waves in the form of double integr
als and single integrals with a special function, the integral exponent. Us
ing the analytic properties of the solution, a simpler expression is obtain
ed for the elevation of the surface of the liquid in the form of single int
egrals of standard functions, which enables one to simplify considerably th
