Abstract
A new chiral polymer-metal complex, methylsulfosodium carboxymethyl-cellulo se-Pt complex (MS-NaCMC-Pt), has been prepared by the reaction of sodium ca rboxymethylcellulose with methylsulfonyl chloride and H2PtCl6. 6H(2), which was found to he able to catalyze the asymmetric hydrogenation of salicyl a lcohol to give (1S,2S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)-cyclohexanol at 28 degrees C and u nder 1 atm H-2, in > 90% product and optical yields, respectively. The cata lyst could be reused many times without any remarkable changes in optical c atalytic activity. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
