Va. Kuznetsov et Va. Generalova, Sorption of Sr-90 and Cs-137 on silica and iron, manganese, titanium, and aluminum hydroxides, RADIOCHEMIS, 42(2), 2000, pp. 166-169
Sorption of Sr-90 and Cs-137 from solutions with pH close to that of natura
l water (4-9) on iron, manganese, titanium, and aluminum hydroxides and sil
ica of various crystallinity was studied. The field experiments showed that
the amount of radioactive isotopes accumulated in iron hydroxides is 5-10
times greater as compared with the background. Amorphous hydroxides and nat
ural bauxite exhibit high sorption capacity for Sr-90, whereas Cs-137 is ac
tively sorbed by manganese hydroxides. Certain recommendations on the use o
f these compounds are made.
