Thermodynamic analysis of oxygen solubility in Fe-Ni melts containing vanad
ium shows that the reducing ability of vanadium declines slightly with; inc
rease in Ni content in the melt to 20%, and then rises significantly. The c
urves of oxygen solubility in ferronickel melt pass through a minimum, the
position of which is shifted to lower V concentrations with increase in Ni
content in the melt: from similar to 2% V for pure iron to similar to 0.6%
V for pure nickel. Further addition of vanadium increases the oxygen conten
t in the melt.
