Abstract
A novel ligand, salicylaldehyde-2-furoylhydrazone (H2L) and its complexes w ith Mn(ll), Co(ll), Ni(ll), Cu(ll), and Zn(II) have been synthesized and ch aracterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, mo lar conductance, IR, H-1 NMR, electronic and EPR spectra and thermal analys es. The spectral data show that the ligand (H2L) acts as a dibasic tridenta te ligand towards the metal cations. The magnetic and spectral data indicat e that the complexes of the type [ML.3H(2)O] (where M = Mn (II), Co(II) or Zn(ll)) are octahedral while those of the type [ML.H2O] (where M = Ni(ll) o r Cu(II)) are square-planar.
