Abstract
The structure of the title compound (eta(5)-C5H4COOCH2C6H5)Co(CO)I-2 (1) wa s determined. The ester carbonyl in the cyclopentadienyl ring substituent o f (1) was found at a dihedral angle of 8-10 degrees with the cyclopentadien yl plane and this structural distortion is attributed to the electronic rep ulsive force from the adjacent C-H bond of the cydopentadienyl ring and the methylene group of the ring substituent. The redox properties of (1) were also investigated via sodium amalgam and cyclic voltammetry.
