Jeg. Sanchez et al., AZTREONAM CLAVULANIC ACID IN THE TREATMENT OF SERIOUS INFECTIONS CAUSED BY STENOTROPHOMONAS-MALTOPHILIA IN NEUTROPENIC PATIENTS - CASE-REPORTS/, Journal of chemotherapy, 9(3), 1997, pp. 238-240
Two seriously neutropenic patients (a 23-year-old man with a promyeloc
ytic acute myeloid leukemia [AML-M3] and a 77-year old male with an im
mature acute myeloid leukemia [AML-M1] diagnosis) with severe infectio
ns caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia were treated with aztreonam/
clavulanic acid (2:1) combination. In the first patient the infection
was caused by a multiresistant strain and in the second, by a strain w
ith poor response to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and other antimicro
bial agents, After treatment with aztreonam/clavulanic acid both patie
nts evolved favorable.
