Abstract
Complexes formed by dimethylsulfide (DMS), dimethyldisulfide (DMDS) and hyd rogen sulfide (H2S) with nitric acid have been observed and characterised i n argon and nitrogen matrices. The spectra show that in all studied systems the HNO3 molecule is hydrogen bonded to sulfur atom of the base molecule. The strength of interaction as evidenced by the shifts in the v(1) OH modes of nitric acid decreases in the following order: DMS-HNO3, DMDS-HNO3, H2S- HNO3. The possible structure of the studied complexes is discussed. (C) 200 0 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
