Abstract
Increasing the overall sugar recovery of a chromatographic molasses separat or has a significant impact on a separator's profitability. Recognizing thi s, Amalgamated Research Inc. developed the "Coupled Loop" separator, which efficiently removes small organic non-sugars that normally affected the qua lity of the extract fraction. "Coupled Loop" separator performance met the objective of increasing overall sugar recovery while producing a high quali ty product without increasing elution water or chromatographic resin requir ements. The improved performance of the "Coupled Loop" separator has been c onfirmed on an industrial-scale separator. At this time, three U.S. beet co mpanies are currently installing "Coupled Loop" molasses desugarization sys tems.
