Abstract
Analytical HPLC methods using derivatized cellulose and amylose chiral stationary phases were developed for the separation of the enantiomer s of 4-substituted pyrrolidin-2-ones. Separations were performed using normal-phase methodology with a mobile phase of n-hexane-alcohol (eth anol or 2-propanol) in various percentages, and a silica-based cellulo se tris-3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate (Chiralcel OD), or amylose tris-(S )-1-phenylethylcarbamate (Chiralpak AS). The mobile phase and the chir al stationary phase were varied to achieve the best resolution. The ef fects of alcohol concentration, various aliphatic alcohols in the mobi le phase were studied. The effects of substitution were analysed. Base line separation was easily obtained in many cases.
