Abstract
The real boundary integral equation method is used to serve the exteri or mixed problem of plane strain. The classical approach, used by Kupr adze to solve the corresponding interior problem, fails on account of the divergence of the related fundamental solutions at infinity. This difficulty is overcome using certain modifications that allow the solu tion to be sought in a special class of matrix functions allowing for the possibility of divergence at infinity.
