Abstract
We showed that plasmin specifically hydrolyzes proteins participating in ce ll adhesion (fibronectin, vitronectin, and laminin) and does not affect non adhesive proteins, such as albumin, ovalbumin, and alkaline phosphatase. Th ese and some earlier results allow us to speak of the specific antiadhesive activity of plasmin, which significantly extends the concepts regarding th e functional importance of this protein and indicates that it directly part icipates in the regulation of cell adhesion, the remodeling of the extracel lular matrix, and, therefore, in cell migration.
