Abstract
The Myxosporea Myxidium rhodei Leger, 1905 was detected in the kidney and u rinary ducts of Chondrostoma polylepis Steindachner,1866 (Pisces: Cyprinida e) from River Ave, North Portugal (prevalence 80%). Affected kidneys exhibi ted a high number of hypertrophyc Malpighian corpuscles containing plasmodi a with glomeruli in different stages of degeneration and, sometimes, fibrou s material within the Malpighian corpuscles. Plasmodia in hematopoietic ren al tissue and in the lumen of renal tubules were also observed but a intens ive granulomatous inflammatory reaction was never observed in these tissues .
