Abstract
A new technique for the monolithic integration of a laser with a spot size converter is presented. The design, fabrication and performance of the InGa As/GaAs strained QW tapered oxide confined laser are discussed. The spot si ze converter effectively reduces the horizontal and vertical FWHM and exhib its very low radiation losses.
