Abstract
In this paper, the notion of normalized nonspecificity is introduced. The n onspecificity measures the uncertainty of the estimated parameters that ref lect impairment in a controlled system. Based on this notion, a quantity ca lled a reconfiguration coverage is calculated. It represents the likelihood of success of a control reconfiguration action. This coverage links the ov erall system reliability to the achievable and required control, as well as diagnostic performance. The coverage, when calculated on-line, is used for managing the redundancy in the system.
