Abstract
The influence of the element shape on the switching of the magnetization in dot arrays has been investigated using a joint in-field magnetic force mic roscopy analysis and magneto-optical Kerr measurements. The single- or mult iple-domain nature of the magnetization at remanence is shown to depend str ongly on the aspect ratio of the elements and on how rounded or pointed eac h element is.
