Computer simulations of cyclic voltammetry experiments at liquid \ liquid i
nterfaces are presented for the transfer of ions (Mz +) assisted by z charg
ed ligands (L-). The main difference, when compared with neutral ligands, i
s that in the case presented here, all the complexes formed have a differen
t charge and the flux of the ligands has to be taken into account in the de
finition of the current, in addition to that of the metal ion and those of
the (z - 1) charged complexes (the complex with the highest stoichiometry b
eing neutral). The particular cases of M+/L- and M2+/L- systems are present
ed. The effect, on the cyclic voltammetry response, of various parameters s
uch as association constants, metal and ligand concentration, is analysed a
nd results are compared to the case of neutral ionophores. (C) 2000 Elsevie
