Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of porcine superoxide dismutase (PESOD) on mer cury electrodes was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and direct current p olarography in the absence of mediators for the first time. It is interesti ng and abnormal that PESOD displays two pairs of redox adsorbed peaks in th e CV diagram, which are located in the potential regions of the disulfide b onds of many proteins reported by some authors, but we attributed them to t he redox peaks of copper(II) and zinc(II) by reconstitution of PESOD. The a pparent numbers of electrons in the reduction process were obtained by pola rography and the electrode process was discussed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
