The effect of magnetic heat treatment on the stress-magnetization propertie
s of Co-based amorphous ribbon with negative magentostriction constant was
investigated. The sample changes the sign of its magnetostriction constant
from negative to positive value due to the heat treatment under perpendicul
ar and normal direction of magnetic field. The surface magnetic domain conf
igurations were observed to reveal the mechanism of this magnetization chan
ge. The abnormal magnetization change under tensile stress is deeply connec
ted with the appearance of complicated domain configurations. (C) 2000 Else
