Laboratory and field tests were conducted to evaluate the corrosion behavio
r of API 5L grade B and X52 steels using Furrial's crude oil in the presenc
e of water and gas containing carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2
S). The results suggest that the corrosiveness of this crude oil/water/gas
mixture is not detrimental to either steel. However, pitting corrosion was
observed. The low general corrosion rates measured were attributed to the n
atural inhibiting properties of the crude oil.
