Abstract
Metabolic control analysis predicts that stimulators of transketolase enzym e synthesis such as thiamin (vitamin B-1) support a high rate of nucleic ac id ribose synthesis necessary for tumor cell survival, chemotherapy resista nce, and proliferation. Metabolic control analysis also predicts that trans ketolase inhibitor drugs will have the opposite effect on tumor cells. This may have important implications in the nutrition and future treatment of p atients with cancer.
