We study the stability of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates under mag
netic traps. Extending the variational method, we investigate the stable an
d unstable conditions as functions of the particle numbers and the s-wave s
cattering lengths. We find that interaction between the different species o
f atoms (simply, interspecies interaction) has significant effects on the s
