We have calculated the photonic band structure for a cubic block of magneti
cally saturated ferrite material having a triangular array of circular hole
s that is under the influence of an external static magnetic field H-ex = H
(ex)z applied in the hole direction. In this: two-dimensional magnetic phot
onic crystal, the saturated magnetism can affect the transverse electric (T
E) mode whose electric field lies in the z axis, but not the transverse mag
netic mode. The photonic band gaps of the TE mode shift to lower frequencie
s and their widths become narrower compared to the case when the relative m
agnetic permeability mu = 1.0. Both the position and the width of the photo
nic band gap increase in frequency as H-ex increases and the gap never beco
mes larger than that fur mu = 1.0.
