This paper presents the results of investigations into the mechanical behav
iour of fixed orthodontic brackets. Special attention has been paid to the
detailed modelling of the interface between the bracket base and an adhesiv
e by which attachment is made to the tooth surface. Properties of this inte
rface were taken as design parameters with the aim of investigating their i
nfluence on the stress field induced during bracket removal at the end of t
he treatment. Stress-strain analysis was performed using a finite element p
rogram developed in-house.
