This paper discusses recent experiences with consistency profile control in
cluding its capabilities, limitations and practical considerations. Various
criteria are applied to examine the performance of dilution control equipp
ed headboxes compared to the performance of comparable headboxes with slice
lip control. These criteria, including 2-sigma and peak-to-peak variation
measurement, and streak distribution, are used to establish a benchmark for
measuring actual performance of operating consistency and slice lip contro
l systems. Finally, the paper concludes, with a discussion of future optimi
zation opportunities made possible by consistency and slice lip control tec
hnologies.
