The structure of a Pd(320) [3(110) x (100)] surface has been determined by
low energy electron diffraction (LEED). A model consistent with an unrecons
tructed bulk truncated surface with relaxation of the first six interlayer
spacings normal to the macroscopic (320) surface and local differential rel
axation of step edge atoms has been considered.
The changes in the first five interlayer spacings were found to be -15% (-0
.08 Angstrom), -9% (-0.05 Angstrom), -6% (-0.03 Angstrom), + 15% (+ 0.08 An
gstrom) and + 6% (+ 0.03 Angstrom). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
