T. Takaoka et al., Collision-induced desorption of N-2 on Ni(100) studied with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, SURF SCI, 454, 2000, pp. 218-221
A collision-induced desorption (CID) phenomenon was investigated using a ne
w combined system of a molecular beam and Fourier transform infrared spectr
oscopy (FTIR). We have observed the desorption of N-2 from an Ni(100) surfa
ce induced by collision with hyperthermal xenon atoms. FTIR spectra showed
that N-2 molecules were removed randomly by the collision. The cross-sectio
n of the CID depended on the incident energy of the xenon. For 1.23 eV this
was 1.2 Angstrom(2). Ln addition, a difference between the mechanisms of C
ID and thermal desorption was found. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rig
