Abstract
We report on valence band photoemission data taken at the storage ring BESS Y I in the photon energy range between 20 and 31 eV with linearly polarized radiation from thin cobalt films on W(110). The experimental results clear ly show different photoelectron intensities when reversing the magnetizatio n direction. This phenomenon is called magnetic linear dichroism in the ang ular distribution of photoelectrons (MLDAD). The energetic dependence of th e observed MLDAD effect is discussed with respect to new fully relativistic band structure and photoemission calculations. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B .V.
