Abstract
Au adsorption on Si(001) above 850 degrees C results in the formation of a regular ordered striped domain wall structure of a commensurate (5 x 3) rec onstruction. The domain walls could be described by (root 29 x 3) unit cell s separating anti-phase (5 x 3) domains of a typical width of 39 Angstrom. Each domain wall shifts the translational vector between neighbouring (5 x 3) domains by one surface unit. This results in a complex LEED pattern quot ed as a (5 x 3.2) structure.
