Abstract
The discretization of Maxwell's equations using finite difference time doma in (FDTD) methods produces real space-time equations that scale linearly wi th the system size, N. We present such an order-N scheme adapted to frequen cy-dependent dielectric functions from which we extract the effective respo nse of metallic structures. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
