K. Seki et al., MULTIPLE ENDOCRINE NEOPLASMS IN A PATIENT WITH AL AMYLOIDOSIS-ASSOCIATED PLASMA-CELL DYSCRASIA, Endocrine pathology, 8(2), 1997, pp. 153-160
Reports on patients with systemic amyloidosis-associated plasma cell d
yscrasia (PCD) who have multiple endocrine tumors are very rare. Here
we describe such a case. The patient was a 74-yr-old man with amyloid
light-chain (AL) amyloidosis-associated PCD who had a null-cell adenom
a of the pituitary and a latent papillary carcinoma of the thyroid gla
nd, as well as a tubular adenoma of the sigmoid colon. The amyloid pro
tein deposits reacted with the antibody to the lambda-immunoglobulin l
ight chain. Since PCD by itself may be a risk factor for the developme
nt of subsequent neoplasms, the careful clinical evaluation of PCD pat
ients is recommended.
