Abstract
A patient with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and heparin-in duced thrombocytopenia successfully underwent pulmonary thromboendarterecto my with circulatory arrest, using recombinant hirudin as an alternative ant icoagulant to heparin. Techniques for administration as well as monitoring of this drug's effects are discussed. (C) 2000 by The Society of Thoracic S urgeons.
