A Brucella strain was isolated from a haemoculture of a clinically ill vete
rinarian practitioner, at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Hospital Base Oso
rno, Chile. This strain was identified as Brucella abortus RB 51 at Laborat
orio de Diagnosticos from the Servicio Agricola y Ganadero (SAG), Osorno, b
ased mainly in the following characteristics: resistence to Rifampicin, aer
obic growth and the production of only rough colonies. The strain RB 51 was
confirmed by PCR analysis.
