The genetic control of calcium, phosphorus, cartilage, and bone metabolism is discussed, and many of the genes involved in this process are described. Mutations in these genes that lead to the clinical disorders associated wi th hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia, rickets, and osteochondrodystrophies are de lineated.
