Leg ulcerations secondary to chronic venous insufficiency have been termed
'stasis ulcers.' This is based on an original idea proposed by Homans in 19
17. However, since then data has been generated suggesting in fact 'stasis'
does not occur. In this paper, we review the information that has accumula
ted, refuting the concept of stasis. We suggest that the term 'stasis ulcer
' is a misnomer, and should be abandoned.
