Abstract
The paper demonstrates a number of applications of radar imagery from the E
RS-1, -2 satellites of the European Space Agency, including to study of the
water quality of intracontinental water tracts, to solution of ecological-
safety problems and also in the interests of historical science. Here, imag
es of ice cover and its radar signatures are used as an indicator and a pro
of of natural and anthropogenic effects and also as a tracer of the locatio
n of historical events.
