A new questionnaire, the Knowledge of Memory Aging Questionnaire, assesses
general knowledge of normal anal pathological memory aging for use with stu
dents, older adults, and service providers who work with the elderly. The q
uestionnaire consists of 28 true/false items covering a broad range of memo
ry behaviors that are characteristic of normal age-related memory changes a
nd abnormal memory deficits due to nonnormative factors such as adult demen
tia. The procedures used in the development of the questionnaire and the re
sults of four preliminary studies are described. Implications of these data
for the design of educational programs for older adults and service provid
ers are considered.
