M. Arellano et S. Moreno, REGULATION OF CDK CYCLIN COMPLEXES DURING THE CELL-CYCLE/, International journal of biochemistry & cell biology, 29(4), 1997, pp. 559-573
The eukaryotic cell cycle is regulated by the temporal activation of d
ifferent cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)/cyclin complexes. Whilst the le
vel of the catalytic subunit of the complex, the CDK, remains relative
ly constant through the cycle, the level of the cyclin subunit general
ly oscillates. Cyclins are synthesized, bind and activate the CDK and
are then destroyed. Tn this review, we summarize the current knowledge
of the regulation of the cell cycle by CDK/cyclin complexes with spec
ial emphasis on new developments in cyclin biosynthesis and destructio
n, the structural analysis of the CDK/cyclin complexes and the role of
a set of inhibitors of CDK/cyclin complexes that are important for th
e coordination of the different stages of the fell cycle. (C) 1997 Pub
