Extensions of nondirectional spatial autocorrelation techniques to two dime
nsions have existed for many years, but the results are difficult to compar
e to the traditional nondirectional techniques and often lack ease of inter
pretability. This paper reviews the traditional one- and two-dimensional sp
atial autocorrelation methods and proposes a new directional method which i
s both easier to compare to nondirectional methods and easier to interpret
than previous directional methods.
