Objective We describe a case of endometrial tuberculosis where confirmatory
biopsy material was obtained by selective resection. The hysteroscopic app
earance of tuberculous granulomas is discussed.
Subject A 62-year-old woman presented with breakthrough bleeding whilst on
hormone replacement therapy. Endometrial biopsy obtained at diagnostic hyst
eroscopy showed the presence of granulomas on histological examination. At
a second hysteroscopy subepithelial nodules were seen and resected. Histolo
gical examination confirmed the presence of non-caseating epithelioid granu
lomas. The Heaf test was strongly positive.
Conclusion Tuberculous granulomas can be seen hysteroscopically and selecti
ve resection will provide targeted biopsy material to aid diagnosis.
