Cross-communication between heterologous signaling systems and the epiderma
l growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been shown to be critical for a variety
of biological responses: EGFR transactivation when G-protein-coupled recep
tors (GPCRs) are stimulated represents the paradigm of an interreceptor net
work that is dependent on G-proteins, kinases, metalloproteases, and growth
factor precursors. Investigating the mechanism of this process will help e
xpand our knowledge of physiological regulatory mechanisms and diverse path
ophysiological disorders.
