In this paper we report a case of 34-year-old man with a severe septic shoc
k. Because of profound hypotension he was given massive amounts of catechol
amines for 10 days. After a short recovery the function of his heart starte
d to deteriorate again and clear calcification around the left ventricle wa
s disclosed by computer tomography. Catecholamines are known to induce myoc
ardial injury resulting in a special form of cardiomyopathy with eventual c
alcification, but there are no previous reports of myocardial calcification
to this extent.
