The modulation of linear short waves riding on a long finite-amplitude
solitary wave has been analyzed numerically. It is found that the max
imum modulated wave number, frequency, and amplitude of short waves al
ways occur at the crest of solitary waves. This paper shows that the m
odulated wave number on the crest of solitary waves increases signific
antly as the amplitude of the solitary waves increases, and that the m
odulated short wave frequency and amplitude on the crest increase almo
st linearly.
