M. Reiffers et al., TRANSPORT AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF RXR'NI-1-X(5) (R,R'=CE, PR AND ND) - THE EFFECT OF COMPETITION BETWEEN RARE-EARTH MAGNETISM, Solid state communications, 103(3), 1997, pp. 179-183
The crystallography, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility a
nd magnetisation of the CexPr1-xNi5, CexNd1-xNi5 and PrxNd1-xNi5 compo
unds are presented. The evolution from a magnetic order in NdNi5 to th
e non magnetic state in PrNi5 (singlet ground level) and CeNi5 (interm
ediate valence) is discussed. The Curie temperature of NdNi5 decreases
proportionally to the amount of substituting Pr or Ce ions. CEF effec
ts on the singlet ground state on the Pr based compounds are detected
by resistivity and susceptibility measurements. The influence of the c
ompetition between the intermediate valence and the singlet ground sta
te in CexPr1-xNi5 are also analyzed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
