Experiment results on Raman spectra of YbxC60 (x = 1-6) taken at room tempe
rature are presented and discussed. Zn the nominal composition Yb3C60 super
conducting phase, the broadening of Raman lines was observed due to electro
n-phonon interaction. In high Yb concentration, YbxC60 (x greater than or e
qual to 4) Raman lines are broadened severely, this behaviour indicates tha
t the C-60 molecules are distorted strongly. However, when YbxC60 samples a
re exposed to air, this distortion decreases considerably, although the ful
leride solids have transformed into an amorphous phase. Copyright (C) 2000
