Zinc(II) and cadmium(II) diethyldithiocarbamates (ML2) are promising volati
le metal chelates having practical applications [I]. It is known that solid
chelates ML2 are dimers in which the dithiocarbamate ions perform both cyc
lic bidentate and bridging cyclic tridentate functions. Here we report on t
he synthesis and molecular and crystal structure of the [Cd(i-Bu2NCS2)(2)](
2) complex This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the alkyl
substituent on the character of crystal packing.
