Abstract
Recent field study of Gondwana sediments in the Paler basin near Chennai br ings to light the occurrence of assorted size of boulders of extraneous sou rce in argillaceous siltstones. These boulders are regarded as glacial in o rigin. It is interpreted that icebergs carried such boulders into a pro-gla cial lake. Melting of the icebergs resulted in dropping of boulders into th e depositional environment. The present study discusses the depositional en vironment and paleoclimate that prevailed during the deposition of these ex otic boulders.
