Four new species of the cattarine genus Cattarus Stal are described (C. erw
ini from Peru, and C. nigritus, C. pseudoculatus, and C. pallidus from Ecua
dor); Phaeax balteatus Distant and P. formicaritus (Distant) are redescribe
d and formally transferred to Cattarus; C. stysi Slater is redescribed; the
new myrmecomorphic cattarine genus Cephalocattarus and new species waorani
are described from Ecuador; and new distribution records are given far the
pamphantines Parapamphantus erikae Brailovsky from Ecuador and Venezuela,
and Tropico-parapamphantus amazonicus Brailovsky from Ecuador and Peru. Dor
sal photographs of all species (except Cattarus insignia Stal) and dorsal i
llustrations of the adults of Cattarus formicarius, Cattarus stysi, and Cep
halocattarus waorani and its model ant species (Cephalotes pavonii), and a
key to the eight species of Cattarus are given to facilitate identification
