Abstract
The time-of-swing experiment for measuring the gravitational constant is co nsidered. The expression for the gravitational attraction of the cylinder i s derived. The cases of no damping, viscous damping and a general damping a re studied. Modeling the environment as a bath of non-interacting modes the equation of motion of the pendulum is derived in terms of the experimental ly obtainable spectral function.
